Sam has been subjected since joining the show, bullying, and harassment which is totally unacceptable. Sam shared in a candid letter that in many “false narratives,” he’s been accused of “manipulating fans, being a closet-homosexual, trying to mislead or exhort fans for money and disregarding coronavirus advice.”

The Scottish actor, who plays Jamie Fraser on the period drama, said he’s opening up about it now because he will “not entertain it anymore” and it’s affecting his “life, mental state and is a daily concern.”

He added: “My co-stars, friends, family, myself, in fact, anyone I’m associated with has been subjected to personal slurs, shaming, abuse, death threats, stalking, sharing of private information and vile, false narrative.”

Sam wasn’t able to reveal exactly where all of the hate and hurtful comments were coming from due to “legal reasons,” but he did say the people involved “are professionals: teachers, psychologists, adults who should know better.”

In the lengthy social media post, the Outlander actor also defended his current self-isolation in Hawaii amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He explained he arrived there prior to the travel ban and decided it was safer to stay there than to get on multiple flights back home to the U.K.

The post ended with Sam thanking the fans who have “supported” him and the work he does.

Outlander executive producer Maril Davis said this is a “sad reminder that we all need to be respectful and kind to one another.”

She tweeted: “Sending my love & support to @SamHeughan who’s nothing but a kind, generous & enthusiastic soul.

“We should focus on helping the world heal as Sam has been. Instead of negativity, let’s spread love and light.”

Outlander is now in its fifth season and it’s already been renewed for a season 6.
