It’s all so easy to grab off a shelf some cream to put on our legs but so many on sale are full of artificially scented, chemically overloaded creams that our poor legs continue to suffer.
You can make a divine leg cream at home for little outlay that will leave your legs feeling like never before.
We’ve all heard of this little gem that provides deeply penetrating moisture to our skin, it also has anti-ageing properties and let’s face it as we age so do our legs. A study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that it also contains anti-inflammatory properties which can only be a positive.
Another study published in the American Journal of Life Sciences stated that shea butter can boost collagen and is packed full of vitamins A, E, and F and provides our skin with much needed essential fatty acids.
Shea butter is also a natural sunscreen that can help protect from sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer caused by too much exposure to sunlight.
Just like shea butter, cocoa butter is great for nourishing and moisturizing the skin it helps fight the signs of ageing and improves skin tone and elasticity as a study in France showed.
The most popular use for cocoa butter is during pregnancy for treating and reducing stretch marks.
Almond oil plumps and firms skin:
Dry skin on legs happens to all ages, but people over 40 notice that their legs are much drier than in the past, this is due to the ageing process, as we grow older our skin is more prone to dryness and flaking.

Those who live in tropical climates have used coconut oil for centuries as it can penetrate deep into the skin unlike other products, that is because it bonds naturally with our body’s protein.
Scenting your cream:
Vanilla is always the best choice to go with when using cocoa oil because of its chocolate scent and blends equally well with the tropical scent of coconut oil. You can’t just use any old vanilla, the best to use is vanilla absolute that the perfumeries use if you can’t obtain the vanilla absolute you can use pure vanilla essential oil. Do not under any circumstances use vanilla essence which is used in cooking.
How To Make Vanilla Scented Leg Cream:
Makes: 3/4 cup
Prep: 5 minutes
2 tbsp cocoa butter
2 tbsp shea butter
2 tbsp sweet almond oil
1/4 cup coconut oil – extra-virgin, unrefined
1/2 tsp vanilla absolute essential oil or 5 drops pure vanilla essential oil
Clear or opaque glass jar
Add cocoa butter to a glass measuring cup.
Place cup in a saucepan with approximately two inches of water. Heat water on medium-low and allow the cocoa butter to melt gently.
Add the melted cocoa butter, shea butter, almond oil and coconut oil into a food processor, and blend for about 10 seconds.
Stop processing and scrape down the sides of the processor. Continue to blend until the mixture is liquid.
Pour into a glass jar and allow to set. If using a clear jar, cover and store in a dark space because almond oil is light sensitive. Or, you may use an opaque jar.
After showering, pat your skin lightly, and then, moisturize right away. Using a natural moisturizing cream on a regular basis will give you silky, smooth, soft legs by summer.
