Science Says Cheese Is As Addictive As Cocaine

Italians are well known for their love of cheese, it seems they can’t live without it and let’s be honest here cheese is rather addictive, they delicious flavors that can get our taste buds going just thinking about it and it is always a go-to after a night out drinking for the yummy toasted cheese.

The University of Michigan has completed a new study that proves cheese contains addictive chemicals that can be found in the drug cocaine that explains why we find cheese so addictive.

There were 500 participants in the study and they all complete the Yale food addiction scale which is designed to measure whether someone has a food addiction.

The survey showed that the most addicting food contained cheese, these being pizza the most craved by the participants. This is because pizza has a high level of casein which affects the brain’s opioid receptors.

Cheese contains casomorphins that act in the same way an opioid pain killer does, and as the food is digested the casein releases the casomorphins, which goes a long way to why we can rarely just stop at one slice of pizza.

The study suggested that the more processed a certain type of food is, the more addictive it is.

I shouldn’t worry about giving up Pizza or the yummy chocolate chip ricotta cheesecake to name just a few food items that contain the devilish and delicious cheese.

Just don’t go grating cheese to snort that could prove a step too far.
