These emerald waters hidden right inside California will make you feel like you’re visiting the tropics!

With travel restrictions still going strong, people have been exploring some of our hidden gems hidden away right inside our own great country. So get excited when I tell you, you don’t have to travel to the Caribbean to find turquoise water. Deep inside the golden state, you can find secret natural pools of crystal clear water that you can swim in. This hidden gem is a bucket list item you need to check off ASAP.

To get to the Emerald Pools, you’ll need to take an easy 0.7-mile hike in the Tahoe National Forest. The elevation gain is only 45 feet and it’s good for all hiking skill levels.

You can see glimpses of the target all along the way as you head towards it. A gorgeous visual reminder of why you are here in the first place! Seeing the contrast of the bright turquoise water with the green forest trees is something magical in itself.

The waters are crystal clear and the riverbed is made of unique red rocks! But the water is ice cold and you should try to plan your trip in the summer so your dip is refreshing and not too chilly.

It’s the perfect spot to lounge on the rocks and have a picnic.

When you’re done swimming, you can also opt to take a hike deeper into the valley gorge. A steep 2-mile trek takes travelers along an unmarked trail through switchbacks and to the most incredible natural scenery.

Everywhere you look, nature will reward you. For those seeking an easy, off the beaten path adventure, these Emerald Pools are sure to take your breath away.

Before you head out, make sure to pick up all your trash and leave no trace. This place is pristine, so let’s keep it that way. Some of the locals come and do a big clean up once a year paying their respect to how gorgeous it is there. But wouldn’t it be nice if they didn’t have to?
